Tell us about yourself. In your opinion, what does it mean to you to be a person of substance?
Tell you about myself. I don’t even know where to begin, or where I would end for that matter. I think I’ll start by saying I’m a black woman. A creative woman. An authentic woman. A virtuous woman. When I googled the word “substance” what I found was “ the real physical matter of which a person or thing consists of and which has a tangible, solid presence.” So to be a person of substance must mean to be real, in a world full of augmentation a person of substance remains authentic.

What's your favorite tattoo? Tell us the story behind it.
The one down my spine. It means “God has no religion” written in Gujarati. I got this during a time in my life where I was questioning the division that religion creates. It’s a reminder to myself that divinity does not fit into any man made category or concept. It just is.

How do you think this story mirrors some of your personal values?
I value freedom (another tattoo I have). I think most of them represent the freedom, and choice to be who you are regardless of what has been indoctrinated.
What would be your recommendation(s) for someone thinking of getting a tattoo?
Take your TIME. Really sit with yourself and decide on pieces that are meaningful to who you are, what you feel, or your journey.
